In this piece, changeling folklore was used as an allegory for the isolation that comes from growing up unwanted. A changeling– a fairy baby that was swapped with a human child at birth– has grown up and, cast off from the humans, returns to the woods, seeking a portal home. The comfort and belonging of family is out of reach, and with it her sense of identity is fractured. This painting ponders how to rebuild a sense of self after rejection by every place that should have offered belonging.
