This piece was inspired by Act IV of Swan Lake, shortly after Odette learns of the Prince’s betrayal. Heartbroken, she sits by the lakeside, contemplating her fate now that her only chance at freedom has been stolen. Sensing her distress, the swans offer the only thing they can— companionship— as Odette quietly mourns the loss of her hope.
